The Montgomery Inn
The girl entered the room quietly, as always but she was sure her father would know she was there the moment she came near the door. Her smile was a bit shy tonight as she stood not far from him, waiting for him to acknowledge her. Random's fingers played lightly with the edge of her sleeve, her lashes lowered slightly.. she was Daddy's little girl after all and there was a great deal of adoration from each to the other in that relationship. For Random, she thought her father was the strongest and fastest and best of everything.. other than her mother of course. She was doted upon and well loved by her parents and the rest of her family here.. one might even say she was a bit spoiled and they would be telling the truth though she didn't act it. "Daddy..." She began in a soft tone.
He knew that tone. It was the same one the girls back home always used on their daddies, just before the batting lashes started along with the hint of crocodile tears. He was gearing up for the question and putting his book aside. "Little lady....?" He asked, putting a gruff in his voice that entirely playful and questionning as he glanced up.
The batting of lashes happened as she gave him the shy smile again and took a step closer, she was a little nervous. It took her a moment to voice her question, wondering why he looked at her like that.. she didn't know about the girls he knew about 'back home'. "Daddy.. may I go out tonight?" She was young still and though she'd hunted on her own, one or both of her parents or other family members were close by - just in case.. and to protect her as she was.. rare.
Out? It was worse than he thought. It couldn't be the pony question, could it? No, she had to start with this one. He let out a long sigh. "Sit down here," he said, patting the seat beside him. He pulled out an imaginary sheet from his book that he seemed to unfold into a lengthy list. "Alright, let's see what the rules say about going out, hm? Where to... how long... who with... and with who else... who's driving... who's buying...?" He paused and gave her a look, checking for the rolling eyes or the crocodile tears. He then looked around for Bronwyn and gave her a wink. He lowered his voice. "Have a nice time. If you don't stay out of trouble though, double the trouble -will- haunt you," he warned.
She sat down next to him like the 'good' girl she was, smiling as sweetly and wickedly as her mother might, some of thier expression were so alike and others were much more like his. "But trouble was exactly where I was planning to go." She replied with a sparkle of delight in her eyes as he said yes to her request, her hands clasped together in a silent clap of joy.
His hand went up, begging her to lower her voice just that much more. Mothers heard their daughter's voices so easily, especially the things they weren't supposed to hear. "Shh! I know, honey, but if your mother bites MY ass for letting you? I'm tanning yours when you get home," he said, looking the girl over and seeing how delighted she was. It wasn't just a general question to be let out on the hunt alone. She was up to something. "Hmm, although... I think you have a very distinct plan in mind already for undermining dear old dad's authority, sooo... I tell you what. Tell me his name and bring him by the house so I can at least read him the riot act and scare his pants off him. And, make sure he gets them back on again right quick before he thinks he try anything on my girl."
She stared at him, completely confused for several moments, she had no idea who or what he was on about. "I don't know 'his' name... I don't know who you're talking about and why would he have his pants off?" That part really threw her and she even shook her head a little trying to make sense of it. "And I know you like it when mom bites your ass! Or am I confused as to how I ended up in existance?" Her arms were folded lightly and her eyebrow arched up as if daring him to deny it. It was then she wondered if the 'him' he'd been talking about was someone he thought she was going to do the things he and mother did. That was a ridiculous thought for him to have! "Besides.. I was just going.. hunting. I'm hungry. It's not like I have any friends.. and you and mom get all twitchy when I go see Gramp... Gabe.." She shrugged, she liked her mother's father - even if he was creepy and dark.. and quite twisted - he spoiled her as much if not more than everyone else.
Twitchy like now? He grumbled a little and the grin faded more as she mentioned her grandfather. "Well, just be careful around large groups.. and small ones.. and those that smell like hunters," he said, starting to go through the same drill as always when they went hunting together, though she was telling him he was staying home this time. Was he pouting? Nearly.
She was careful, he'd taught her well and she nodded along as he spoke, knowing the drill very well. "No large groups.. promise." She smiled with excitement but saw his expression and he seemed a little..sad? Random darted in to kiss his cheek and wrap him in a brief tight hug, she loved him very much and loved hunting with him.. just tonight she wanted to go alone. "I love you Daddy." She whispered to him, wondering if she should go find some boy to bring home to him, to make him feel better.
