early evening
Trent's apartment
Trent raises an eyebrow at Sapph after readin headlines... she's still asleep in her web... "Okay if it wasn't you, then...?"
shifts, her bare leg drops down in front of his face, murmurs 'damn wolves..'
rubs her calf and kisses her ankle. "... daammmn... damn what?"
"Mmmm.." Shifts, blinks and stretches. ".. wolves.. I don't leave shredded carcasses behind." She points to the headline. "I am meticulous.. I lick my plate clean.. I am very neat not .. savage."
"Come on down here and tell me what else you know. I"m curious. It's been a couple hundred years since I've seen a wolf... well, that kind."
"Why do you need to worry about what some wolves are doing?" Leans over edge of web and slowly slinks down beside him, smiling and kissing his cheek.
Part of my job, keeping the peace, keeping the community from getting sucked on or eaten. Same reason I don't want you eating the neighbors. Makes for bad block parties.
Sapph sighed and rolled her eyes. "Well.. we have to eat too.. you know.? I mean really.. we're demons.. this is what we eat.. what we do.. Even if you stop some of it.. you'll never stop it all.. "
"No, probably not. But I would like to try and keep it on the down low. You see, humans have this bad habit of freaking out when they see their brother or sister in pieces. Then the press gets involved and the local government and it gets really ugly for all demon kind. I'm not exactly safe, you know."
She growled and rolled to her back with a sigh. "Can't we just eat the goverment? I bet we could.." She mused with a pout and glanced over at him. ".. fine.. fine.. I'll help."
"You may be onto something," he mused, sawing his finger over his chin. He gave her a look that he was kidding and only hoped that she was. "Seriously, wolves here and now.... that's worse than nosferat."
"Why? what's wrong with wolves? They aren't any worse than me.. well other than being messy. They are a bit rough around the edges.. but not horrible as demons go.. Vampires aren't much different either.. they just like to think they are superior.. more civilized.. "
"You... don't travel in packs. .. do you?" He paused, then shook the thought out of his head. "You're definitely more civilized than wolves and although thorough... and somewhat ravenous... insatiable... um.. where was I? Oh, wolves.. hey, what do you mean? We are more civilized - at least some of us are."
"Yeah.. and that makes you better than wolves because you pretend to be one of them and then eat them.. not you personally of course.. you're a little wierd as creatures of the night go. No offence.. you're just not very .. typical." Her lips curved into an affectionate smile.
"I try not to be," he pouted slightly, getting a slight shiver in thinking about the ways others tended to behave. "And that's not exactly true about the others, either. You won't get a vampire lurking around and pretending to be a wolf. I'm not sure which is more prideful, but either way ... it's just not pretty to think about."
She looked at him with a curious expression, thinking perhaps she'd done something wrong...again. Her chin rested on his shoulder as she brushed her fingers over his chest.
He curled her up beside him, settling her more comfortably in the crook of his arm as she rested on his shoulder. "Sapphira... how much do you know and understand about humans?"
She looked at him curiously and shrugged. "What do you mean?" The glow to her eyes faded as she cuddled into him, feeling less anxious when she was near him. "What part of my study do you wish to know about?"
"Gil told you about vampires, but what did he tell you about me? Before he sent you here?"
"Nothing.. your name.. not to eat you... to give you a chance..." She shrugged. "He really gave me very little to work with."
This might be more difficult than he'd imagined, explaining himself when he didn't really even know. "Could be that he didn't know me before. Not many did... of course they're all gone now..."
"Humans life span is very short." She nodded, kissing his shoulder. "Trent... I'm... I would like you to be able to tell me whatever you want.." She seemed to grasp a bit at how to express what she was tring to tell him.
"That's just it... I don't know," he said, looking to the ceiling for a moment, then turning to her. "I'll tell you if I can nail it down, but right now, I'm just... here... not sure what to think or feel or know, if that makes any sense. I think I can understand what you mean about sleeping a thousand years. I kinda feel like that in some ways... parts of me just not awake or alive."
