Things here took a lot of getting used to. He'd never known cold like this and stepped into the invitingly dark establishment to escape it. Perhaps in the shadows here no one would bother him with the details of how it should be snowing or that it was in fact not so bad in their opinion as he'd dodged at the convenience mart a few blocks away, and the hotel lobby after that as he ducked in and weaved around small minded humans and their daily routes. This place provided more than just the sensation of temperature variances he was getting to know. He turned away at the odors that hit him suddenly, trying to acclimatize to those as well. Perhaps it wasn't that strong, but to him it was simply unexpected. He knew the scent... beer and humans. A few moments to brush off the shock was all he needed, turning into the thick jacket he wore to turn down the collar and pull off the ragged gloves he'd been wearing to stuff into his pockets. Now the scents drew him further inward toward the bar, allowing him to look around at the patrons who were in much less of a hurry than the last few stops he'd made. He took a seat on the stool he grasped suddenly, having not expected it to spin under him as he hefted his daunting frame to sit on it and stare at the array of multi-colored liquids on the back shelf.
Nisari had only been in the bar for a few minutes herself when the newcomer walked in. It only took a couple moments for his scent to hit her nose as she sat a few stools down from the one he took at the bar. She chuckled very briefly and softly as the stool spun on him, it was sort of cute to see one that wasn't all perfect and stuff. She rolled her eyes and glanced at him, wondering if he'd come in to stop her from having one of these 'wonderful' humans for dinner. She'd already eaten recently so he was wasting his time.. though he didn't have the look of the others she'd encountered, something was different about him. She was curious and lifted her hand to the bar tender, pointing to her drink of whiskey and then to the man who'd just sat down.
The bar tender poured the drink and came to set it in front of Azarius. "From the lady."
Lady? He wasn't paying attention to that until the bartender spoke to him. He didn't have a clue what to order and wasnt sure he could pay for anything he did order. He nodded his thanks to the bartender and lifted the glass for the girl to whom he owed his gracious thanks. He grinned, nervous and uncertain, nodding to her as well, though it was a small and slight gesture. A flash of thoughts hit him as he looked upon her. The series of visions were dark and bloody as were his own. The grin faded and he turned to look at the glass, taking a sip.
Nisari's head tilted to the side, his smile and the way his scent changed.. she'd swear he was nervous. She nodded to him and lifted her glass to take a sip from it, her eyes following the bartender who was a little too skinny to be appetizing to her. Humans as a whole were so frail but she prefered the ones with a little more bulk, something to sink her teeth into.. like the man she'd bought the drink for, only he wasn't human anymore than she was. He might not be a meal but she wouldn't mind sinking her teeth into him, it was an amusing thought to ponder.
He looked back up from the drink, noticing the feel of watching eyes. The thoughts were only at the surface but clear enough to make him grin again. She was hiding from something just like he was and the thoughts turned, murmuring about... dinner? She was hungry and again the bloody scenes flashed through his mind. "Interesting," he said out loud, glancing quickly to his drink that had already warmed him up a great deal. He finished it off and set down the glass before coming closer to her. "Thank you for that," he said, speaking with a gentle accent that clearly wasn't from here.
Her ears picked up the word he said to no one it seemed, before he finished his drink, at that time she was sipping at her own and not looking toward him though she was well aware he was moving toward her. She turned her head and smiled, her eyes were warm, amused, and curious as they followed over the bulk of him and his coat. "You're welcome." Her voice and her face were both gentle and sweet, quite the contradiction to the violent and bloody images he'd seen. With him closer she could take in his scent more easily and noticed more the differences from others like him, not that she'd met all that many but now and then thier kind would cross paths.
He head tilted a little and he looked around the room. Not many were here and none had thoughts as clear as hers. He looked back again. "What earned me the favor? It's appreciated. Cold out," he said, nodding toward the door, though he watched her curiously, trying to identify the path of her thoughts.
"Just being friendly.. yes, even my kind can do that." She shrugged, her chin tilting a little as if she was a bit offended that he asked about the drink. "Alright.. I was curious about you, too." She flipped her hair over her shoulder and looked down at her glass. "I hadn't really noticed the cold.. I thought it didn't bother you.."
"Why would you think that?" He grinned, curious how much she knew... besides enough to state 'her kind', acknowledging his suspicion that she wasn't human and the realization she knew he wasn't either. "It bothers me more than it used to," he nodded. "Comes with knowing I'm not going home. Since I'm not going anywhere... can I join you?"
"I thought you were all perfect and stuff." She shrugged again but the words weren't as harsh as they might have been if he hadn't told her he wasn't going home. Her curiosity was growing by the minute, especially since he asked to join her, she nodded and gestured to the stool next to hers. "Unless you'd like a booth?" She turned her gaze toward the more shadowed area of the bar.
He considered it briefly, feeling the tone of her thoughts change slightly as she offered to move to a booth. "I'd prefer it. Further from the door," he said, offering her a hand to help her from the stool in case it spun, too.
"Send over a bottle." She turned to the bar tender again and slipped a few bills from her purse to pay him before turning to the stranger again. "Alright then.." She wondered about his motives for wanting to move away from the door and her eyes fixed on his hand for a moment before she reached hers to take it. His scent was strange but she couldn't read any malice in it toward her so she took the risk to trust him. He'd find her hand quite warm despite the fact that she wore a top with slip straps rather than sleeves, the cold didn't seem to bother her any. She had a coat with her, it was for style and show, not because she needed it outside, she scooped it and her purse up with her free hand and gently tugged Azarius toward the furthest and darkest booth in the bar.
