afternoon
Sweet & Saucy Boutique
The weather was keeping most folks walking quickly between cars and shop doors although the sun was shining and the walk was clear. The wintery air was welcomed for a little while, but he simply wasn't dressed for it. Louisiana didn't have cold spells quite like this and Julien couldn't exactly afford a new jacket, or even an old one. He was lucky what he had on today was clean and mostly pressed, the pale cord shirt over the dark tee beneath fitting in for the area, but out of necessity rather than warmth. He traveled light, he smiled and told most folks. Very light. His fingers had gotten numb again between shops bringing him to pull open the closest door without even reading the sign. The music inside was the kind he could spend hours with and made the window-shopping easier as he started to look around as he intended to be here.
Kat heard the small bell chime the arrival of another patron and she sighed softly. The morning had been pretty busy and things had finally slowed down to a pace that made it easier for her to be away from the counter. She left Cori, who worked a few shifts a week, to handle the register while she busied with straightening up and redoing one of the display shelves. She was softly humming now and then, the music turned up just a tad and her legs, hips and shoulders moved to the beat as she worked. Her long dark hair, swept up out of her face as she modeled some of the things they sold in the shop, a cute black leather skirt and black tank top with a light sweater keeping her arms and shoulders warm, it was unbuttoned. Kat's head turned as the gentleman came in and she gave the handsome guy a warm smile and a discreet once over.
Julien felt the eyes turn on him and did his best to return the smile and return his hands to his pockets in a gesture of not touching a thing he might leave prints on, or give the impression he had any intention of taking without paying. It was safer not to touch things in here and his hands were warmer in his pockets anyway. He gave the woman another glance as she danced and worked finding that a nicer display than many of the racks in the shop though he continued to mill around.
She let the man browse undisturbed while she finished up the shelf. Once she was satisfied with how things looked, she gathered the few items she'd taken down and moved off to find them a new home. Kat made sure her path took her by the man, she smiled again and gave a small nod. "Afternoon." She greeted him softly, being friendly but not pushy. "Let me know if I can help you find anything."
"Afternoon, m'emselle. Thank you, I'll be sure and do that," he said, as if she were really sincere in her offer. He hadn't run across too many folks who gave their well wishes and helpful pitches with honesty, but that didn't stop him from giving the hospitality his momma had beaten into him and his brothers when they were boys. He rattled the busfare in his pocket as she flitted on past, finding himself turning and watching without a sense of decent bashfullness to his name.
"Alright then.." Her smile brightened a touch as she passed close and then twirled off to find another shelf for the items in her hands. Some part of her could feel his eyes following her as she moved on but mostly she didn't mind such admiration. Of course the song that was playing didn't curb her behavior at all, rather it encouraged her to dance a little more, the sway of her hips and the heels displayed her lovely legs to anyone who wanted to look. "Hold on tight.. you know she's a little bit dangerous... ooo just a little bit dangerous.." She sang along softly, stopping along the wall to shift a few things and get the other itmes relocated. "..she's got what it takes to make ends meet, the eyes of a lover that hit like heat.. ooo she's a little bit dangerous.."
Cori took the boss's light mood as a sign to ask for her break. "Kat.. mind if I take off for lunch?" The dark haired beauty shook her head and motioned towards the door. "I got it.. go ahead." She went back to rehanging a few pieces that had been pulled off by earlier shoppers.
"Ain't that the truth, na?" He hadn't meant for the words to come out that loud, but the fade out of the song helped the thought come out. The shyness he missed moments before fell out two-fold now as he tried to cover his commentary with the wording he pretended to read on the shirt on the rack beside them. He pointed to the saying... "It's true, non?"
Kat's attention turned back to him and her smile remained warm, sparkled with amusement as she stepped closer to see what he was pointing out. "Did you find something you like?" Her gaze drifted from the shirt up to his handsome face and her smile was all about him for a moment.
His mouth curled around the words he was about to say which were apparently a mouth full that he chewed carefully as she smiled up at him. He smoothed the shirt back in place on the rack and straightened the hanger along with a couple next to it. "Suppose you could say that, chere, but it might be a bit too much for l'il ol' me... somethin' so bold and outspoken, non? I'm looking for something... warm and friendly, y'might say, something maybe in... a lovely shade of brown," he said, watching her eyes.
She licked her full lips gently and giggled soflty, still looking up at him with a warmth that was not after a sale. "I think maybe you could handle something a little bold.. still warm and friendly though." Her eyebrow arched up slightly and her hand came to rest over the rack as she watched him back, she didn't shy away from his gaze.
Julien held back the chuckle and he seemed to jump a little as her hand reached up near his, as if afraid she might slap it or cuff it. "Somethin' tells me, chere, that one or the both of us ain't talkin' bout no shirt. Na before I go puttin' my foot in my mouth and say somethin I'll regret later on, oh about five minutes from na, just what kinda way were you meanin' t'say 'handle'?"
Kat giggled again and gave a slight shrug, leaving her hand where it was even though she noticed his flinch. "Ohh I was just saying that a big, strong, tall, dark, and handsome like you could probably handle anything little ole me could toss at you.. shirt or no shirt."
His eyes lit up with her words and he couldn't hide the smile if he tried. "Hoooweee, I think I just might go ahead and take that," he joked. "Think y'might be able to giftwrap that, maybe put one of them cute little tie bows up top?"
