afternoon
Lily often came this way, to the edges of the garden which was her home and sactuary and that of other creatures like her. She was one of the more playful creatures who inhabited the garden, she often danced and twirled and chased after the delightful animals who would join her. This afternoon she was free of any callings to the mortal world and entertained herself with a small group of butterflies near the river bank. her blond hair softly framing her face as her short flippy skirt fluttered with each jump and twirl, her laugh floating in the air around her.
A small keyhole view was all he'd had for days as he'd peered inward from the inky shadows where he dwelled between her light world and the realm of creatures that devoured her kind. Today she held no court save for the fluttering bits of fluff and color that spun as breezily as she did among them. His attention was absorbed not by them, but by her silhouette beneath the sheath of air that floated away from her every movement. Mesmerized but unable to reach her, his fist flew angrily against the tiny rift in hopes of breaking it away and ending the torture. Instead it taunted him further as the rift split wider, and wider still as he set his booted foot against it with two solid attempts as if the space were any ordinary door stuck in a swollen frame. The rift had become large enough to squeeze through then, and with him fell a smattering of shadowy forms - mite-like and spidery snippets of impurity that skittered away gleefully as he set foot firmly in brighter, kinder light than he'd ever known. The light shimmered off his nearly-black hair, casting opalecent ripples as he turned and felt his way through the brightness to find her. The distance was wider than he'd imagined and took longer strides to traverse than his narrow, twilight-ridden home. He chuckled and the sound seemed to answer her blissful giggles, carrying well like the sound of crows before rain. Soon he was at the glen where he could now hear the river and smell the musty rich earth around it. He took a robustly deep whiff of it all and of her where she danced and again he chuckled, offering her his hands to join her in her playful dance.
Lily continued in her own blissful play, unaware of what was happening or that she was being watched.. until the dark spidery things skittered off into her world. She didn't know they were there as they were so small and went off quickly but she felt a strange chill that paused her steps for a second. Brushing it off quickly, she twirled again and then stopped with the sound of laughter that was not her own. Her head tilted to the side and she stared up in wonder at the dark haired one, her smile shone softly and curiously for him. "I don't know you.." She nearly giggled the words out as she placed her hands into his, in her world everything was safe and dancing with this stranger would make her happy so she tugged him closer and started to move again.
