3pm
New Jersey
Rayen stood in the midst of the rubble, looking for her brother. Her face, hands and clothes were covered in ash, and she was alone.
Lucas dropped from a teetering wall, the only one left standing in the building. He grinned and bowed with a swipe of his arm. "Not bad for a couple orphans...looks like we are the only ones left." The small neighborhood had been hit hard and not much was left standing.
Rayen leapt over a jagged cleft in the floor and joined her brother at his side. "I'm glad you're ok" she sounded exasperated after the climb from the basement. "I thought the floor was coming in on me for sure," she said and looked over just as the floor to their left caved in.
Lucas laughed and grabbed Rayen's hand, pulling her farther away from the falling debris. "Well good thing it didn't!" he scowled at the collapsing building.
Rayen looked at Lucas, worry in her eyes. "Can we go now?" she asked. We need to find a place to stay tonight, this building obviously isnt safe enough for us to stay in anymore."
Lucas grinned and scooped her up, carrying her out of the remaining rubble, before setting her gently upon her feet. "Come on...not just a new place to stay, how about a whole new city?"
Rayen's eyes widened. "Are you sure?" she asked, remembering when they first came here. There had been 3 weeks of straight explosions and every place they went it was only worse. On the other hand, she trusted her brother. "If you think we should."
Lucas nodded eagerly. "There's not much here Ray...and it gets less everyday. We best go while we can still get out of the city."
Rayen nodded and took her brother hand. She had to hope for the best.
