Gabe's Keep
later in the morning after On The Team pt 1
Gabriel had retired to his rooms and was entertaining his own thoughts - her favorite time to interrupt while he rambled to himself about tramps and drooling slag, brushing his sleeves of the undesirable reminders of lesser beings. Azrathene listened to his musings and plans, interjecting now and then with provision of the opportunities he would need to pull off his next thoughts, whether he acted on them or not. She found herself chuckling and materializing for some conversation now, reaching to squidge his cheek though he would only feel the prickle of a cool draft over his face before she sat nearby on the table. "Such a gooood boy," she teased him as he straightened himself up. She was glad to see him showing a little discretion in his choice of playmates.
He continued to talk to himself, muttering and rambling on about former females that had thrown themselves at him and how it had annoyed him to pieces. Az appeared and squidged his cheeks, bringing a small smile to his other wise pursed lips. "oh shut up.." He teased her back "..am not." He pouted like a child for a moment and then returned to a much more serious expression. "There's just nothing a two bit ho has that's worth me getting. I have much finer tastes."
"Mmmhmm of course you do... as far as bile and violence can be considered 'fine', I suppose," she grinned, watching his expressions change. Her head shook as if to tell him to cheer up - things were getting far more entertaining, afterall, at least for her. "So, you have your favorite toy again... now what?"
He looked at her visage on his desk and gave her an odd expression. "I have a favorite toy?" He didn't recall gathering any toys for himself on their trips out, other than those he had join his forces, but he didn't think of them as toys. Many were disposable minions but.. he sighed. "Which one is it?" He asked her curious as to what she was getting at. "I didn't break it yet did I?"
"No, but you'll probably want to ... have you checked your basement, dear?" She nearly opted to shy away from the topic. He was being fun at the moment, but he'd get over that as soon as he went downstairs to visit his most prized possession.
Again he shrugged, pausing in his excited movements to answer her. "Not since we threw that bunch of slags down there to save for later.. kind of like a pantry.. with screaming." He grinned, chuckling at the thought and the image that accompainied it.
"Mmhmm...," she smiled as she hopped down from table and stretched. "You should check your larder more often for rats, I think, but I just give the suggestions, not the orders. What does happen while the cat's away, Gabriel, hm? Have a nice night." She kissed his cheek, like a cool touch of air - and was gone again.
"Oo.. maybe I should get a cat, let Devin's stupid dog chase it around.. " He laughed, suddenly remembering Dallas and that d**n mouse she'd 'made' him rescue. He wouldn't admit it but there were times when he missed her. Having a wife.. one who actually wanted him was something he'd enjoyed.
Azrathene's abrupt departure was followed by an abrupt pounding on the door. The swing of the door opened to a slight and timid man, bringing his announcement into Gabriel's chamber. "Beg pardon sir - she's gone."
He moved towards the door to find the slip of man in a frazzle. "Who's gone? What do you want?" He was annoyed and the tone in his voice would show this.
Realizing he'd entered the room in panic, unannounced and even less welcome, the steward held his hand up around his own collar and straightened himself up, swallowing shallowly. "To keep my head, sire. Beg pardon, but I thought you'd want to know.. your daughter, sire... she's gone."
"What do you mean she's gone? It's not like she could have just walked out. I know those chains were strong and locked, used to use them on bad dogs.. held them, would certainly hold a little slip like my daughter.. Which means someone let her out.. what was that about keeping your head?" His eyes narrowed as he rose from his chair.
He whimpered and contorted, stepping back in fear, covering parts of himself then other parts, not sure what Gabe would remove first. "I had no key, sire. I went to take her evening meal to her... it was a mess, scattered, several men fallen and the rear door pried loose. Some are healing and swearing, though I don't understand it... Jorden, sire... he was here."
"Jorden? Why the hell was he here? d**n it someone should cut his head off again." He came closer and looked the steward over. "You don't look very banged up.. why is that?"
"Skinning rabbits and pigs sire... in the kitchen," he shook all over, showing the man his stained hands. "I was nowhere near them, chopping... chopping... chopp-.." his voice trailed off to a frantic shivering and whimpering, curling his hands back up under his arms, feeling suddenly very, very cold.
"So where is my dinner? bet you made something good with them didn't you.. but do you bring any to your Lord and Master of this keep.. do you? Nooooooooo youuuuuuuu bring me nothing but terrible news." He poked the man in his arms and chest as he spoke in a voice that taunted and pouted at once.
He didn't dare swat the man away though each poke was sharp and felt like it drilled through the bone underneath. "Awaiting your return, sire - never to be served cold, never cold - warm and fresh for you... waiting. I can bring it for you... now... I'll just go get it..."
Gabriel growled and glared. "No.. I don't want it now.." His voice dripped with sarcasm. "I have to go check on the mess down stairs.. I'll want it when I'm done.. shoo." He motioned the man off with a flicking motion of his hands.
The shake pulled the man's nod through a bouncing series of agreements as he slipped away, feeling the wall behind him to follow toward the hallway. "As you like it sire.. ready and waiting for you... "
He leaned against the wall and watched the man tottle off. Gabe let out a grumbling growling sigh and closed his eyes. "Very clever Az, lure me out and let them come in my back door.. very clever and very aggrivating." He started for the dungeon with a stern and sharp expression.
"I only show them the door, dear - how they go through it...," the voice would come to his ears, sarcasm and cold whimsy. As quickly as it wisped through the room it was gone again.
He continued on, brushing off the voice as he was simply angry now.
