Montgomery Inn
Continued from: The Importance of souls
Ember was more pale than she'd been and wasn't traveling well. Once above ground his instructions were given to the seeming child. Ember was to be his sister still, but she was ill and the inn would need to take her in and give her a room. Their father was a doctor with something that would heal her and they were to wait for him. Doyle would then take the boy and go shopping for a soul under the cover of night.
She was nearly delerious now, pale, confused and losing memories that faded with her. Ember's eyes focused on Doyle and she seemed to know him at one moment and not in the next. "I think you're in my dreams.." She whispered softly to him, before drifting from them again.
"Dreams.. that's all they are. You'll wake up soon and you'll be just fine," Doyle murmured, passing his dark form over hers to shield her eyes from the glare of the human's lights. She'd appear delirious, talking to no one as her brother made the arrangements.
She seemed confused and maybe crazy to those around her as she whimpered and called out in a whisper to 'no one'. "Please.. stay with me.. I don't want to forget anymore.."
"You won't forget much more, I promise." They brought her to a room and though he expected there would be many more questions, strangely there were not. Giving further instructions to the boy, he sent him off to scout first for something that would pass as food for her, then to watch the patrons of the inn. Doyle stayed, his less-than-corporeal form curled protectively around her.
She seemed to need to rest and even slept or so it would appear as he curled protectively around her. It was growing harder and harder for her to hold on, she faded in and out more. Growing more pale and weak she 'awoke' to search for.. him, it seemed as though she was struggling to recall his name, murmuring and whispeing nearly incoherantly.
