Colena sighed and flipped the text book to the next page, she had a test in this class and was worried about her grade and of course passing the test would help that. She had a couple more days to study but felt like she was never going to get it down. She'd been in the diner for hours but thankfully they weren't asses about that kind of thing, she kept buying food or drinks every so often to make sure she didn't wear out her welcome and to keep her energy up so she could continue with her studying. She rubbed at her eyes and looked up, her gaze slowly moving around the diner.. she just needed a little break, that's all.
Her turning finger must be tired by now, he thought, smirking from the table by the window where he'd looked over now and again at the girl who'd been trying to study for hours. Dominick had his coffee cup raised up to his chin, staring pensively over it as he went over the ideas of what he thought she might be studying to impossibly tranform herself into something more fascinating than she already was. He blinked back into conscious reality as he suddenly found that her head was raised and she was scanning the horizon of mostly-empty tables, about to look his way. The cup spilled a little as he set it down quickly, trying not to seem as though he'd been staring. And now, he was mopping up the blob frantically trying not to sop it up with his sleeve and appear as a completely klutzy idiot in need of a nanny. He wanted to crawl under the chair as he felt her gaze make its way across the landscape of his table and mopping efforts. He held his breath and then did the completely unthinkable. He looked up to see if she was still looking around!

She almost didn't notice the guy, she saw him but wasn't really looking closely at anyone, just casually glancing around. If he hadn't spilled his coffee, she probably would have 'missed' him. The motion of him cleaning it up was what caught her attention, after that she noticed he was pretty darn good looking. She was watching him clean up, her chin in her hand as she leaned on her table, this cute smile on her face which he'd see when he looked up again. Colena was caught staring but she hoped it didn't seem rude, he was just cute in the way he moved. Her mind had started to wander over thoughts of who he was and what he was doing there.

Oh, the immense mortification! He glanced up to find not only had her attention been pulled toward him, but that it remained there, adorably blinking at him from atop the hand where it rested. Surely this was his karma seeking him out to amuse itself with his embarrassment of being caught admiring from afar... which, he suddenly realized to his utter distraction, that she seemed now to be doing. Frozen for the moment in her gaze, Dom held the napkin ball in his fingers until realizing the damp heat of it and tossing it down quickly into his cup to free his hands in case he needed them to hide behind. He attempted a slight grin toward her. His fingers simultaneously betrayed him as they wiggled a tentative 'hello' without his conscious approval. The breath he held squeaked out with soft horror. Maybe she wasn't even really looking at him at all. He was, afterall, beside the window and he was even more afraid to find that she was looking for someone outside of it. Why wouldn't she be waiting for someone? Why was he so nervous to worry about it at all? He hadn't been in town very long. Of course it would take time to meet people. Painting himself in coffee wasn't exactly the best way, however.

He waved and it was Col's turn to blush, she smiled a little more as she chuckled and lifted her hand to wave in return. Her teeth caught her lower lip and she tried to pull her gaze away but it wasn't working, he'd really caught her attention. She let go of her lip and decided what the heck, she needed a break anyway and her hand lifted to beckon and invite him over to her dry table that just happened to have an empty bench on the other side from where she was sitting. If he accepted, which she wasn't sure he would do, she could easily clear the books off to the side or down on the bench on her side.

Now he did turn to look out the window, only to find the walkway vacant and himself the only person in her line of sight. Him! And he was being invited to join her? He took a deep breath, or tried, forgetting he was still holding half the last breath. What in the world was wrong with him tonight? He was paid well by Daddy not to get flustered or draw attention, especially when he was assigned as Marc's back-up. London was so different, though, so much easier to see and not been seen among the constant flow of people, unlike this tiny town Resher called home. He was off that clock tonight and when the rules weren't clear he felt lost. His feet seemed to understand the rules as well as his waving fingers had, bringing him over to her table. He looked over the books, trying to find the subject she was rifling through. "Hi," he said, smiling shyly. "You've been working very hard. I'm not interupting you, am I?" Of course not if she invited you over to sit with her!

Col watched him walk over, the smile shining softly as he accepted the offer, thank goodness he had, it would have been embarrassing if he brushed her off. "Hi." She returned the greeting and then shook her head to his question. "Oh no, quite the opposite.. you're really saving me." She gestured to the books and then started to pack them away into the bag that was on the bench next to her. "I've been working too hard and I need a break before my head explodes!"

"Hadn't figured you for a damsel in distress," he grinned. "Very glad to offer you some distraction... to keep your head from exploding, of course." Was it just him, or did he sound as nervous as he felt? He was sure he'd had enough coffee though he offered. "Could I get you more coffee, or maybe some dessert? I mean, ask them to bring you something?"

"I'm good with just the company for now.. though dessert is tempting. Do you want more coffee?" She didn't want to remind him that his last cup had ended up being spilled and just smiled instead. "Thank you for coming to save me.. I really appreciate it." God, that sounded so lame. "I'm Colena.." She decided introductions were better and held out her hand with another warm smile.

He perked a little at the unusual name she offered, expecting a Jill or Kate, but was happily surprised. "Very nice. Dominick... quite pleased," he offered in return with a kind smile. "You're kind to offer, but I should stick with water for now - around all your books. What -are- you studying? I'm fascinated," he admitted. "Although dessert... you might talk me into."

"Thank you. I'm fond of it.. though you could call me Col, if you want." Her eyes sparkled with his compliment about her name. "I'm not studying anything." She smiled, setting her chin in her hand again as she gazed across the table at him, he was darn cute. "I've put it away.. no more studying nor thinking about it." She gestured to the bag she'd packed the books into, demonstrating that they were away where they should be. "Now.. about that dessert.. what kind of sweet do you like?" She asked with one eyebrow arched up slightly.

"Oh, well you must want to be a spy, then, hm? Keeping it all a big secret. That's okay," he grinned, peering teasingly over the table's edge to catch a glimpse of the spine of any of the titles but they were turned so he couldn't. He sat back with a chuckle, defeated, and instead looked at the plastic-covered card that sat tilted in the ringed stand that made it hover menacingly at eye level with chocolate drizzle and whipped cream dollops in nearly every picture. "One of each," he sighed dreamily then chuckled again, turning the card for her to look over. "Seriously, let it be my treat. You're working awfully hard and I have an enormous sweet tooth. Please? With sprinkles on top? I think that's number four," he added, nodding to the picture of the sundae.

"No, I don't want to be a spy and I'm not keeping it a big secret.. I just really don't want to think about it anymore, much less talk about it. I'd really like to forget about it for a little while.. if that's okay?" His curiosity was bordering on pushy but she hoped that he'd drop it now, she watched him try to peek at her books and shook her head slightly though he seemed to be trying to tease now - it really was nothing exciting or even that interesting. She was more interested in pretending it didn't exist for awhile.
"Which one are you going to get?" She asked, once he had switched the topic to the desserts and took the card to look it over, she didn't want the sundae or sprinkles and was leaning more toward something like cake or maybe warm like pie.

Dom frowned. It would be just like him to annoy the girl and be left sitting alone again. He backpedaled in his mind to focus on something else, directing his attention to the desserts as much as he could. "Ahm... Oh, that one, the double fudge chocolate everything, served warm with ice cream and 'two spoons, enough to share', see where it says? Want to split one of those? You wouldn't let me go it alone, would you? That could be disastrous," he said, trying not to sound greedy. Again he backpedaled and went quiet a moment, looking down at his fingernails he realized he was tearing apart. He never did this sort of thing. Observation, never interaction - it just wasn't something he knew how to do very well. He glanced up shyly, hopeful that she would be kind. "Alright... here goes. Colena, look. I saw you over here a while ago and I've been trying to think of something brilliant, or at very least something somewhat more intelligent than just 'hello, I think you're stunning', though that's all that's come to mind. I do... think that you are. I just.. don't know what to say after that," he admitted.

"Stunning?" She whispered, taken aback by his words, but in a good way - she was surprised and well wondered if maybe he'd been looking at some other girl? She wasn't stunning. Col glanced down at the shirt and the sweater over it, her simple jeans and shook her head, what was so impressive about her? "Um.. well.. you're really not doing so bad for thinking of things to talk about. I mean other than focusing a little too long on what I was studying which I didn't want to talk about.. other than that everything has been fine and even asking about that was fine.. It's sociology, by the way.. I'm considering a career in human services but worried about making ends meet, most of those jobs don't pay much." She shrugged and smiled a little. "The double fudge everything with two spoons sounds really good, if you're still interested?"

"Sounds great!" Dom agreed as he glanced back up, relieved but now wondering if she just pitied him and was humoring him not to be rude. Dominick! He heard the distant scolding in his mind and winced... His father always scolded him for setting his pride aside for self-loathing. He hadn't listened well then, either, but he surely remembered the voice enough to know when his conscience decided he was being unreasonable - when it sounded just like Dad. He opened one eye and chuckled. "It sounds great. Sorry, I just had a thought... about something stupid. Thank you... for not witnessing my solo ice-cream pig-out. I'm hopeless when it comes to sweets." By now his eyes were both open and watching her attentively, noting the curve of her lips and the delicate coloring of her cheeks. Especially sweet girls, he thought, hoping he wasn't drooling now.

Her head tilted to the side and she rested his cheek in her hand to watch him, he was really cute but seemed nervous. She wondered why such a sweet, nice.. and handsome man would be nervous around a girl like her? She wasn't any great prize, not some gorgeous model or glamorous socialite, she was just a girl in jeans with big books. Her other hand slid across the table, one finger brushing over his hand. "Really? I don't know many guys who would be willing to admit that. Alright.. I don't know any.." She smiled, thinking again how sweet he seemed himself. "I'm glad to help you indulge your sweet tooth.. anytime."
