March 19, Year 2
Elizabeth was humming softly to the tiny swaddling of baby boy she held in her arms, one of Lily and Patrick's twins, the other boy was sleeping and their parents were also resting. Elizabeth had been on her way down to the kitchen when this one started to fuss, she didn't mind tending to him for a bit to let Lily rest some more. Her voice was soft as she half sang and half hummed the lullaby, it seemed to do the trick and the baby was quiet and content in her arms. She paused now and then to kiss his precious head and take in that sweet baby smell, a small adoring smile perched on her lips.
Ev had come in hoping to find a cup worth of coffee still on the stove. He didn't want to sneak up on her, seeing she was carrying something and as she turned and he saw what she carried, he was the one startled, though sweetly so. He took off his hat as he should have done in the house, resting it to his chest and beaming over seeing her with the child. "Who's that little'un y'got there, Missus?"
She was caught up in the moment and in the sweet face of the child, startled slightly by Ev but not enough to completely lose the dreams in her head of when she would hold their child. She couldn't help the blush as she whispered "I'm hoping that it will be our baby.." She paused and blushed a shade deeper, with all the chaos in the past week she hadn't yet told him. "I think we need to talk."
"Talkin' don't bring babies," he teased, kissing her sweetly. He gave her another look and beamed over his brother's child. Despite the boy's oddness, he made some fine children.
"Mmmm." She hummed softly to him for the sweet kiss she did so enjoy. Her eyes sparkled gently and she shifted to lay the baby in the basinette as he'd dozed off again. "No.. talking doesn't bring babies... but another six months or so will.." She confessed her briefly kept secret and fussed with her sleeve, watching him a little nervously for his reaction to the news.
He watched her set the boy back to his nap. Her words snapped him out of his own, it seemed and he nearly dropped his hat. Almost at a loss for words, he tried several before hugging her more gently than usual, snuggling her there. "Well, now that explains a lot about how .. shiny you've been. Thank you for ... just, thank you," he said, not finding any of the words he wanted and instead giving a lingering and happy kiss.
His reaction settled all her fears and touched her with how tender and sweet he was, she was even more in love with him in that moment as she kissed him back and cuddled into his embrace. Her hand rested against his chest and her head on his shoulder. "You're welcome.. and thank you." Her voice was soft with her awe and joy, she slid one hand to her tummy. "Shiny?" She asked quietly about his comment, feeling her cheeks warm with another light blush.
He nodded a little. "Yes'm. Morning sunflowers are the only thing I know that shines brighter, Miss Liza."
Well if that wasn't the sweetest thing he could have said... how did she ever get so lucky as to find him? Liza giggled and lifted her face, leaning up to kiss him again. "Come here and we can practice making more." She whispered boldly, caught in the moment and her absolute joy at sharing the news with him.
He chuckled and brushed his hand over hers on top of the small wonder that would soon be their own. "Don't think we need more practice," he shook his head and whispered closer. "Got it right on the mark already, I'd say."
She holds his hand on her belly, feeling something she can't begin to describe, it was beyond joy.. bliss perhaps? Her smile shone out, it was impossible not to smile at the moment. "I'd say it's perfect, come here anyway.." She giggled quietly and sought to pull him even closer to celebrate some more.
