April 14, Year 2
Just back in her arms from a bath, the child squirmed for warmth. Rory smiled and leaned over them to kiss Aeil softly. "Always appreciative of the beautiful things. Like hair that stands straight up like mine," he chuckled, smoothing a lock down on Aeil's pillow and then a dark curl that peeked out from the tiny blanket-bundle in her arms. "You were supposed to be sleeping."
Aeil smiled softly, she was still not fully recovered or back on her feet, it had taken alot out of her to have that little bub, but it was very worth it to see the shine in Rory's eyes and the sweet face of their little girl in her arms now. "How can I sleep with this precious baby and my handsome husband here?" She asked, feeling more than drained but not wanting to miss a moment with either of them.
He appreciated the compliments, too, but not at the expense of too much talking and wearing her out. "Hush," he said, hoping that she would accept that as an order, though she likely wouldn't. He followed the words with another quick kiss then started to tuck the blankets around her. The morning air was still crisp and she couldn't afford the chill.
She cradled the babe in her arms as best she could with Rory tucking the covers around her, she couldn't help the slight shiver and worried that if she was cold the baby might be too. Aeil insisted on caring for her baby as much as she could and kept pushing herself to try to do more. It was tiring her out quickly, her body was trying to heal and make food for baby which she nursed as often as she could. It kept Aeil weak longer but the baby was very healthy after the rough start. She brushed a soft kiss over their daughter's head. "You hush.. I'm adoring."
"Well you only adore for a little while and then it's time to curl up for a nap, both of you. You still need to rest, so I'll be right here and there's a wetnurse coming this afternoon," he said, trying to deliver that news without too much fuss.
"Wet nurse!?" A look of hurt crossed her face and she pulled the baby closer, protectively. "No.. no we don't need that.." She weakly protested and blinked the sting of tears from her eyes. "Rory.." She quietly tries to insist she is fine and he shouldn't worry.
He reached a finger up to her lips. "Shhhh. None of that, you need your rest. Sam thinks it will be for a couple more weeks at least. I said I'll be right here and if she's needed, she will be, too. Truly, there's nothing folks need from me in town that they can't come up to the door here for. Settled?"
She shook her head, though weak and starting to show more and more how tired she truly was, she wouldn't simply give in. "No." She pouted, pleading with her expression for him to side with her. "I don't care if I can't get out of this bed for a month.. I'm her momma Rory.. I'm supposed to nurse her.. not some other woman."
Rory rarely lost his temper, especially around Aeil with all she'd been through. There was no mistaking the stern expression that said he'd have the last word, however. He masked it with a flash of a grin and reached to fluff up her pillow a little before going back to his books and his chair in the corner. A small table made up his makeshift desk and he went back to juggling his books and papers on it until he found a workable angle and combination.
Aeil huffed a little, pouted alot, and watched him go back over to his makeshift desk, he didn't say anything else and she wanted him to so she could protest more or.. something. She waited and her eyes slipped shut before she could give anymore argument on the subject.
When the sighs and coos quieted down, he peeked in on them both to find they'd dozed off. He shifted the blanket around her a little more before he kissed Aeil on the temple again and whispered a little love to their dreams.
