May 2, year 2
It was early afternoon and Ame was feeling a bit tired, warm.. the usual for her condition and being in the kitchen made it a bit worse. She had cooking to be done and this time of day there wasn't usually anyone around for her to need to fret over trying to hide what was becoming more noticable. She usually wore a shawl and she'd let out some of her dresses which helped to hide the bump that was starting to swell more. The stew she was making was already making her half hungry and half ill, she almost laughed as she cut up the potatoes. It was a nice day for this time of year, just right and Ame was even smiling today despite the worry that grew with her tummy.
Six months or so that seemed like an age and then some had passed and the brothers LeCroix had found their way back into town. Pelts of northern fox and leathers of caribou, trinkets from the native folk in the icy bays and a few assorted carvings and crafts padded and rattled their cart. Their Eastward journey would begin when their stay was through in town, but Jeff's words to his younger brother sounded as though that journey may be put off some. Jeremie wanted nothing more than to see home again and have some of mom's cooking, maybe do some river fishing that their journey had been too cold for. Jeff heard him but seemed not to listen, his mind on many other things that left them in fuming silence until they arrived at the edge of town, at the boarding house that to him, was home. Jeff's voice was found and then some as he hollered loud enough to wake the bones in the graveyard. "Alrigh', na... who was it wanted presents, r'a here, na!!?"
There was a clatter from the kitchen as Ame jumped, hearing the familiar voice bellow out. She dropped the bowl in her hands and it shattered at her feet, she let out a quiet yelp and pressed her hand to her mouth. Her worry was forgotten for a moment as her heart leapt and pounded, feeling like it was beating again for the first time since he'd left town last. "Jeffery!" She cried out as she came rushing from the kitchen, intent on throwing herself into his strong arms, that she'd missed sweeping her into hugs. Her shawl forgotten over the chair where she'd laid it as she nearly ran to meet the voice that gave her shivers.
Jeremie sighed and climbed down from the cart as he was forgotten. He started to unload what they needed to start and tally out what they'd need to stow during their stay. "I'll get the team watered," he said, knowing he wasn't even heard.
Jeff's smile was bright as he heard his name called out. She was still here and sounded glad to see him. He pulled himself up closer to the door, meeting her there with opened arms. "Ame!" He said, nearly like he was ending a prayer and sighing delight at once."Let's get a good look on you!" He was more interested in getting on a good squeezing hug than looking, but looked anyhow, smiling brighter.
"Jeff.." she said his name quietly as she reached him, shaking her head at him wanting to look at her. "Oh Jeffery.." She nearly sighed, reaching up to cup his face in her hands. "Oh I missed you.." She told him quietly and leaned to shower his cheeks with soft kisses, nearly with tears in her eyes as she felt so overwhelmed at seeing him. "Hi Jeremie.." She greeted his younger brother over his shoulder with a small tearful smile.
Jeremie smiled kindly and waved back then pulled down their night gear to set on the porch before walking the team around toward the livery. "Afternoon ma'am," was all he said, shooting a buck-shot glare at his brother before he wandered off to leave them to talk.
