March 30, Year 2
afternoon
Angel was explaining to Nate, about how she tried to apply at the hotel as a maid before the new owners came. He'd stopped her on her way by and of course she smiled and spoke politely with him. "Of course they wouldn't hire me because of my associations.. you know.." She gestured in the direction of Tessa's house.
Nate chuckles and puts the 'now hiring' sign back and waves her in. "See that red faced balding old man at the desk? he was 22 and had a full head of hair three weeks ago.. think you can handle the desk?"
"I might a couple days a week.. but Gully has convinced me of someplace that needs plenty of help.."
He glares at the Carlisle and nods. "Well that's all fine... can use plenty o hands here, too... but I suppose god's work is never done..."
"Gods work? I meant the family.. Lily, the twins, Aeil, and the baby she's got coming.."
*raises an eyebrow* .... *nods*... "I see.. so two days a week?"
She shrugged, really not sure. ".. I had given up the idea of workin here.. when they didn't hire me before.."
"Just goes to show you can't live by what people think about you. Who comes to hotels? People who ain't from around here anyhow. Do they know you? No. Do they know me? Heaven help 'em if they do," he grinned. "Missy, the job up there is yours for any time you're able to take to do it. Today, in fact if you want to send ol' Hiram or whatever his name is off to Sam before he's fallen over dead from his heart." He chuckled and shook his head. "We'd be glad for the help."
"You're quite serious aren't you?" Her head tips to the side and she rests the basket on her hip that she was bringing to Doyle at the smithy... she'd made the boys some lunch.
He looked at the sign in his hand, the spot for it on the shingle out front and then to her. "Serious, ma'am. Most of those that worked here with the Mitchells are all gone or wanting more than I can pay right off, so they'll be gone soon. Now I'm putting the sign back up anyway for anyone else, but you think about it and come on back soon. Once we get this old boat floatin' again, we'll do right by whoever stays and whoever signs on. You come ring me or Miss Harris when you've decided. We're staying upstairs."
She nodded, biting her lip. "I'll stop back after I bring this to the boys.. I can speak to the family I am staying with.. and I will come back and let you know."
"Fair. More than fair and thank you for your time," he smiled, motioning that he was about to put the sign up for more help.
She scooted out of his way and gave a slight nod of her head, her tumbling blonde locks caught in the soft breeze for a moment. "Thank you sir.." She turned to hurry to the smithy and talk to Doyle.
