January 14, Year 2
It was no wonder Sam Carlisle was not married with how busy his brothers seemed to keep him, he had no time for a family of his own. As if to prove this very point, he had fallen asleep in his office while working on a particular case he had been paying special attention to.. one that -didn't- involve any of his brothers! Due to the recent events in town, at home, and with the ladies who now called the Carlisle estate their home, Sam's dreams took a strange turn...
Laurel was in his dream, she smiles shyly and shuffles a foot as he runs from one sister in law to the next "breathe.. push.. be right back.."
"Sam.. " She holds up a finger. "Sam.. I..." sighs. "Sam!" She watches him run back and forth, finally tripping him... smooths back her hair.
He stops in front of her and lifts her skirts.."you're not dialated yet.." comes out..eyes widen.."Laurel! oh I um.. everything looks good..I have to go away now!"
"Sam!" She motions to slap him, but instead grasps his arm and backs him to the wall. "Stop... just a moment... I need to tell you something..." She grins. "Thank you... mama is feeling better, at least for now and I owe you my thanks." She kisses him without taking ‘no’ for an answer... and telling him ‘yes..yes yes.’.. as the kiss deepens.
"Aw heck women have been having babies since the begining of man.." He tosses Laurel over his shoulders and tells his brothers, "You made the babies, you deliver them!"
Laurel giggles. "Care to experiment with making your own, Doctor?"
He carries her off to a private room to play doctor.
Laurel kissed his cheek... finding him sleeping at his slides and drooling on his notes for trying to help her mother. "Doctor Carlisle?"
Sam moaned softly and smiled in his sleep, hearing her voice and murmuring. "Marry me Laurel.." He doesn't wake up yet, his hand curling the air as it rests on the table where he is slumped.
The movement caught her eye and she leaned to hug him gently, her hand curling softly into his. He’d been such the darling to try everything he knew to help and here he was exhausting himself. She smiled and kissed his cheek again, whispering into his dreams, “I will if you ask me again when you’re awake, Doctor.”
His fingers curled more firmly around the hand that found his, a long exhale sighed out. Sam's eyes fluttered, his dreams fading as realization that something solid was in his grasp and he was not alone. His head lifted and he groaned, groggily wiping the drool from his mouth and glancing to the other hand that held Laurel's. "Miss Putnam.. I was just dr,, dozed off.. is something.. has your mother gotten worse?" His expression was concerned as he sought to get his bearings, awakening a bit disoriented, it had been a wonderful dream and he smiled as the 'smokey' images lingered a moment.
“The same, but that’s still better than worse,” she grinned thinly. “She’s an old woman, Samuel. She’s never been in good health.” She paused and reached to turn his shirt collar for him and brush it down. “My, but you need some looking after at the moment, yourself. Was it a good dream at least?”
"Best dream I ever had." He admitted softly, his eyes gently sweeping over her face. "I'm just fine Miss Putnam.. you have more important things to fret over than me." He caught her fingers as she brushed down his collar and brought them to his lips briefly. "I have something..." He let go of her hand and fetched a small jar with some herbs and powders mixed together in it. "Make her some broth with this, start with twice a day.. as much as she will take."
