November 4, Year 1
In the past few weeks, nearly a month, since she'd returned to the Carlisle house Angel had noticed the absence of one family member.. Gully. He'd been reading alot and spending time out of the house 'away from such tarnishing influence'. She felt like it was her fault and was just about ready to leave herself, she didn't feel right about pushing him away from his home. Angel knew she may as well stay at Tess's for living like that unless Doyle was convinced to become an honest man. She wasn't sure if he even wanted that sort of thing with her.. all she knew was that she loved him. Angel lowered her head, ashamed and went to find Gully to tell him she would go back to stay at Tessa's.
Gully turned her right around to go back in the house where she's safer, cared for and adored by everyone in the house... even him... he's just odd that way.
She may not have had the best lot in life but she was awful upset to be offending the preacher.
"...and maybe talk some sense into that soot brained loon..." tells her a secret. "If I told you half of what he's said in secrecy during confession.." gives her a look. "Miss Angel... he'd look after you and keep you safe twenty years after he's dead and gone, he's so in love with you... who am I to put a damper on that?"
"A man of God." she whispers softly. "You know about how things are supposed to be with decent good folks.. all I know is places like Tessa's.. only a hel.. heck of alot worse."
"Which is why you most certainly are not going back anywhere but in that house where there is a far more, dare I say 'wholesome' sense of family and pride, Miss Angel. You're not turning me out, I am. A young girl needs her privacy and I should well be on my own and fine. There's a small room in the church that will be just fine for myself. Until such time as you make an honest man out of my brother, you have my blessing to take my room as your own."
She shook her head. "I can't do that.. this is your home, your family.. and if I was any kind of decent.. I wouldn't be disrespecting you or Doyle by being here with him.. like that. You say he loves me.. well I'll tell you now.. I love him.. I adore him.. and if I do, I shouldn't be putting him in this position. Sullying his name with my tarnished pressence."
"You're doing nothing of the sort. It's a saying we all grew up with around here, Carlisle and Palmer alike. Don't pay attention to what folks think or say about you or those around you. What 'is', is and that's all that matters. You're true to him already, Angel. That's what matters."
