September 10, Year 1
late afternoon
Kaz wrenched a bowie knife out of another spider on his wall
Belle stood in the doorway and smiled. "Keep throwing knives or shooting things everytime I come to see you and I'm starting to think you don't like me."
"I, but... hello.." He nodded and grinned. "Like ya fine, Miss Belle."
"So do you want to make another squeak in my bed?"
"Beg pardon?" He fumbled and dropped his knife.
"Would you take a look at another squeaky bed?"
"Oh, I thought I heard y... nevermind. Sure I'll take a look if it needs fixin'."
"Thank you.. it's my aunt's this time.. mine has been wonderful since you fixed it."
"May need to give it a check up and make sure that squeak don't come back, now."
"You're too nice to me... but come by anytime."
"Not half as nice as I'd like to be, Miss Belle, but... I... I'd like that. Comin' by... but not to fix squeaks. I mean... if you don't mind my visitin' to visit?"
"Not at all.. I was going to say.. maybe come by and have supper or tea.. or just come by."
He put his hand over his tummy, unable to hide the growl. "I was hopin'... you're a fine cook. I didn't want to just ask myself in, but consider it accepted. I would like that." He grins shyly. "Would you make more of them biscuits?"
She giggled and blushed softly "Thank you.. glad you like them. I'll make you a whole pan of biscuits."
"I couldn't... that'd be... I.... would you?"
She stepped toward him and bit her lower lip. "My aunt doesn't have a squeak in her bed."
He swallowed dryly and slides his knife in its pouch, taking three tries as he's not watching it, but watching her.
"Sorry.. I fibbed and all.. " She licks her lips and fiddles with the collar of her dress. "Would you like some of my cooking now? I.." She laughes softly. "I brought a basket.. thought with the time of day and all.. something to eat..."
His stomach tumbled and lurched, agreeing loudly for him. "Might be a good time for it," he smiled.
"I'll be right back.." She nearly bounced and spun, skipping off to get the basket. A patch of sun followed her as she came back through the door, large basket under one hand and a jug of sweet wine under the other. "Hope you like what I brought you.."
"Might find I even like the food and drink, too," he admitted softly.
"You.. um.. oh." She blushed lightly and smiled sweetly, she'd worn her hair with only the front pulled up this time, adding soft curls to hide the pink of her cheeks and give her an even sweeter look.
"Miss Belle, would you mind terribly if I apologize for startlin' you... the knife and all. Don't want you thinkin' I don't like you... and that it's only your cookin' I do like," he said, still shyly, but standing straight and watching her eyes. His large, square hand, though used to hammers and chisels was delicate as he moved a strand of her hair that clung to her cheek.
"I.. oh Of course.. I was just teasing about the knife.. I know.. the spiders.." She motioned to splat of blood and bug guts on the wall where the large spider had been. She did her best to calm her heart as it flutter when his fingers softly touched her cheek. "Speaking of cooking.. I brought you a good meal.. and it is kind of heavy.." She swallowed glancing up at him with a hint of adoration in her eyes.
