September 20, Year 1
follows: A Fateful Hand
Since Adams never really hit either Rory or Everitt, Ev couldn't keep him overnight. The sheriff knew Adams was going to be angry when he got home, but.. "man ought notta gone and bet his sweet honey outta the beehive, son." Ev, egged him on from the safe side of the bars.Ev kept him in the cell until he'd sobered up a bit and then told him he can go home when he can walk there and not fall over. 'sides... Ev didn't want to watch him all night.. he had places to be and school marms to keep warm... marm.. only one. Adams seemed confidant that Aeil would be home when he got there and staggered off, Ev decided it was best to get Rory and Aeil home to the estate for tonight at least.. Ev didn't play like that, the way Adams seemed to like and he wanted everyone safe. Of course... he came home with her... knowing he better have Ror in tow, too. "WANTED: new magistrate... on account o'the old one done flipped out of his dang tree!" Ev's just yelling at him on the way back is all... 'do you realize what you've gone and did? you're making me work... I hate that......'
Ror, of course, is smirking and trying not to laugh, being quietly optimistic and insistent that it'll work out just fine... "Ev worries too much, ya see."
Elizabeth was woken up by Ev's return and came down to find out what the small commotion was about. "What is he smirking for?" She asked about Rory, seeing that they now had a house guest to take care of and Ev had some explaining to do.
"Cuz he's stupid? umm.."
"Ooooh."
"Nah... he's got an 'angle'... I just need to figger out what he's thinking." He whispered to her.
"Mmm have fun."
Ev felt he was right about the immediate situation... "letting that hornet loose like that without Aeil having a safe place... baaaad."
"Very very bad." Elizabeth agreed.
"but... letting her stay at the big house... locked gate, not easy to get in and easy to see anyone coming up to it... gotta love that balcony."
"Mmmm.." Elizabeth agreed again, admitting that she loved the balcony. ".. but maybe not for the same reasons."
"shhhh... not while we have guests..." He teased and grinned. "Well... maybe... did fix that squeak."
She blushed 12 shades of red.
He whispered. ".. it's pink I'd be after, not red..." He chuckled and moved off.
Liza was speechless and darker red -then when she'd recovered, she threatened to slap him silly.
"already silly, darlin'.." Ev hollers over his shoulder as he lights a cigar, and mumbles. ".. not half the damned fool my brother is... and don't go askin' which one... all of 'em!"
Giggles softly and chases after him, threatening the broom, for making her blush, so, but drops it in trade for jumping into his arms and giving him his welcome home kiss.
He grabs her in a waiting arm and holds her closely. "Well now... thought it was supposed t'be fools trying to follow where angels tread... what happens when the angel follows a fool?"
"He gets a kiss." She smiled, leaning softly to his lips again.
He smiled gently as he pulled away slowly. "Supposin' he's one pretty happy fool...," he said, looking at the ash on his cigar and flipping it away quickly before it fell on her skirt, cursing a little under his breath. "Fool with some pretty bad habits."
She shook her head and ran her finger donw his nose. "Not so bad.." She motioned to the cigar. "Plenty of worse habits you could have."
"Plenty of worse habits I do have," he grinned, kissing her fingertip. "Should maybe attend to our guest?"
