7:30 p.m.
Under the cover the early, cold evening, Rase again scaled along narrow outcroppings and ledges, working his way between the crumbling buildings to avoid the checkpoints and the questions. His bag rattled quietly, items gathered for the girls and their new-found friends, two bottles of ink and a second bag carried by his brother who kept behind him like his own shadow. The pair kept themselves below the spotlights that swung now and then to illuminate the glass-less windows of the walls closest to the last checkpoint. They paused as another wash of light nearly caught his brother's leap to a low roof behind an air turbine that creaked its slow, thin circulation of stale air through the mostly-vacant building below. Once the beam made its pendulum swing back across the roof, they ran and shuffled back into the shadows, nearly to the apartment. Less than five minutes later they knocked, hoping to find Vara safely home.
Rase's brother looked through the bag he'd carried as they stood at the door, curious about what his brother had collected. "Ink? Why? I thought I was the artist here. New interest because of her?" He asked, needling Rase with a wicked grin.
He turned slowly, trying not to encourage the static. "No, she's the artist.. and the art. You'll see. Put it away."
Vara was wearing the boxers Rase would recognise from the first night he'd come over and a t-shirt, her feet were bare as she padded to the door. She looked through the peephole and Rase might hear her delighted giggle as she saw him there in the hall. The locks were undone and the door flung open to the petite blonde and her pigtail braids, launching herself into Rase with an excited embrace. "Aaaah! You're here!" She was quite thrilled and not shy about showing him that she was.
Rave was in the kitchen, sort of hiding and watching Vara at the door, that man was here again and though Rave didn't mind him, she wasn't overly friendly toward him. Still a bit timid but curious since Vara adored him and because he'd been nice to the girls.
Rase swept her up in one arm, tossing his bag to his brother so he could catch her with the other as well. "Sorry for the sneak attack," he said, giving her a quick kiss. "I scored some nice treats for. Oh, Vara, this is Sa-... Sketch," he said, remembering to introduce his brother.
He shuffled the one bag he had a good hold on and nearly juggled the other right over his head as it was tossed at him. Rase almost introduced him by his name, but didn't. He wondered why. 'Sketch' worked just as well, but it wasn't like he was trying to hide anything - was he? He wasn't going to waste his breath on greetings as long as Rase was liplocked with her, anyway.
Vara was chasing after another kiss when Rase shifted enough to introduce his brother. She smiled at the man who was now carrying both bags, though her arms wrapped greedily around his brother. "Hello.. it's nice to meet you.. please come in." She wiggled her legs a little, her bare toes curling as Rase held her and she gently tried to nudge him into the apartment.
Rave poked out of the kitchen a little more, leaning out to see what was going on and who was with Rase, just as quickly she ducked back in. Her teeth played at her lip and she slowly peeked at Rase, Vara.. and this other stranger.
